Pillars

Anthony currently serves as the Health Outreach Coordinator for the New Mexico Office of African American Affairs (NMOAAA), a role that reflects his lifelong commitment to public health, equity, and community empowerment. Born in Marysville, California and raised in New Mexico, Anthony proudly identifies with his multi‑racial, Black and Hispanic background, which continues to shape his understanding of diverse community needs across the state. A graduate of La Cueva High School and the University of New Mexico, he has always envisioned contributing to the well‑being of New Mexicans and specifically aspired to serve at NMOAAA.
With over 20 years of experience in public service which includes 14 years within New Mexico State Government, Anthony has developed expertise in healthcare regulatory compliance, Medicaid/Medicare programs, behavioral health, and statewide community outreach. His interest in health advocacy and programming began during his time at UNM. Initially pursuing a degree in Criminology with hopes of entering law enforcement or attending law school, Anthony’s participation in policing activities and ride-alongs transformed his perspective. Through those experiences, he recognized that his calling was not law enforcement but in public health, prevention, and advocacy, where he could work proactively to support individuals and communities.
Anthony’s commitment to advocacy took root early. While in high school at La Cueva, he helped initiate a Black Student Union to elevate the voices and visibility of minority students. This was an experience that continues to inform his work in equity and representation today.
Alongside his public health career, Anthony has extensive experience in personal security and safety. He has provided security for various establishments, musical genres, and artists, gaining deep respect for and insight into human behavior. Through this work, he developed strong observational skills and an advanced understanding of situational awareness, safety practices, and community interaction. The skills he developed complement his outreach and public health responsibilities.
Outside of his professional roles, Anthony has long been connected to the fitness and athletic community. He played semi‑pro football with the NM Outlaws and the Santa Fe Sting and remains active in supporting natural bodybuilding across New Mexico. His commitment to wellness extends into mentorship, where he has encouraged healthy eating, active living, and positive lifestyle choices among individuals of all ages and cultures.
Anthony is a proud father to one son, a stepdaughter, a grandchild, and two boxer dogs, Mia and Rocko. His family, lived experiences, and dedication to service continue to drive his passion for improving the health and well‑being of African American communities across New Mexico.
