Deon Watson is a dedicated professional whose educational and community-focused journey reflects determination, resilience, and a strong commitment to growth and public service. His academic path is unique, spanning three institutions during his undergraduate studies—an experience he proudly describes as something he “wouldn’t change for the world.”
Deon began his higher education at Central New Mexico Community College in 2017, where he earned two associate degrees. Seeking to expand his business knowledge, he continued his studies at the University of New Mexico Anderson School of Management in 2019, majoring in Management with a concentration in International Business.
During his junior year, Deon boldly pursued a long-held dream rooted in his middle school years: studying abroad. He applied to one of the top universities in Paris, France, trusting the process and guided by faith. Three months later, he received life-changing news—he had been accepted to study abroad in Paris for the Fall 2021 term. While overseas, Deon broadened his global perspective by visiting countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and more, enriching his understanding of international cultures and business environments.
Driven by a commitment to professional excellence, Deon later earned a Master’s degree in Project Management, strengthening his leadership and organizational expertise.
Beyond his academic accomplishments, Deon is deeply engaged in community service. He has collaborated with organizations focused on gun access and suicide prevention, contributed to the
work of the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission, and supported youth and professional development initiatives through groups such as NSBE, among others.
In his role as Economic Empowerment Coordinator with the Office of African American Affairs, Deon is focused on addressing key issues impacting the Black community across New Mexico, including business ownership, financial literacy, workforce development, and wealth building. He works to develop programs, build strategic partnerships, and connect individuals to resources that create pathways to economic mobility and long-term stability. Through initiatives centered on entrepreneurship, access to capital, and financial education, Deon is committed to helping individuals and families build sustainable futures and generational wealth.
Through his education, global experience, and service to the community, Deon continues to build a career grounded in purpose, integrity, and meaningful impact.
