Our Higher Education Pathways programming connects students to colleges, universities, and alternative post-secondary opportunities, including HBCUs, trade schools, and certification programs. We provide guidance on admissions, campus readiness, financial planning, and career alignment.
For the Black community in New Mexico, expanding access to higher education is key to increasing representation, building generational wealth, and creating pathways into leadership roles across industries.
UNM African American Student Day
UNM African American Student Day is an annual program that invites middle and high school students to the University of New Mexico campus for a day of college exposure, cultural engagement, and academic inspiration. Students participate in workshops, campus tours, and student-led discussions that highlight college readiness and the Black student experience. The program helps increase awareness, confidence, and access to higher education pathways for Black students across New Mexico.
UNM Black Health Care Careers Expo
UNM Black Health Care Careers Expo is a targeted career exploration event for Black high school students hosted in partnership with the University of New Mexico. The program introduces students to a wide range of healthcare careers through direct engagement with medical professionals, interactive sessions, and guidance on education and training pathways.
The expo is designed to increase awareness, access, and representation in the healthcare field by connecting Black students in New Mexico to real opportunities, resources, and mentorship within the medical profession.
UNM PATH Program
UNM PATH Program is a college access and readiness initiative offered through the University of New Mexico that supports high school students in preparing for post-secondary education. The program provides academic enrichment, mentorship, college exposure, and guidance on navigating the transition from high school to college.
It plays an important role in increasing college readiness and access for students, particularly those from underrepresented communities, by equipping them with the knowledge, confidence, and support needed to successfully pursue higher education.
