Office of Black Community Engagement New Mexico Braiders Policy

CABQ’s Black to the Future Policy Institute cordially invites you to our gathering and planning session. Swag Bags and Tasty Treats as well.

Please come photo ready. Together we can change the law herein New Mexico, making our state the 34th in the Nation to Embrace Natural Hair Care!

Natural Hair Care Legislation

The African American/Black Community, Indigenous Communities, Immigrants and Refugee Woman are denied opportunities to generate income for their families, this must end.

New Mexico needs to de-regulate the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology’s requirements for a full license when these programs do not teach Natural Hair Care practices.

Natural Hair Care includes: Braiding, Locks, Twists

Potentially a Bill will need to be introduced for de-regulation. Or a separate Bill created and introduced that is specific to Natural Hair Care itself, however this requires a Board/Commission to oversee Natural Hair Care.

Natural Hair License:

Should our state offer a specific Natural Hair Care License?

Should New Mexico acknowledge Natural Hair Care Licenses from other states?

What are your thoughts about apprenticeship in a certified Natural Hare care salon?
