Event Recap: Dreaming in Color: Afrofuturism and the Future of Black Creativity

From June 27th to 29th, the Office of African American Affairs of New Mexico hosted a transformative event, Dreaming in Color: Afrofuturism and the Future of Black Creativity, at the Sheraton Albuquerque Airport Hotel. The event brought together a vibrant community of artists, thinkers, and leaders to explore the powerful intersections of Afrofuturism and Black creativity.

Over the course of three days, attendees delved into the rich tapestry of Afrofuturism through dynamic keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. High school students and parents had the opportunity to participate in specialized workshops designed to inspire and empower the next generation of Black creatives. These sessions provided invaluable insights into creative industries, offering tools and strategies for navigating and thriving in these spaces.

Highlights included captivating presentations by renowned Afrofuturist artists and scholars who shared their visions of the future, emphasizing the importance of Black cultural representation and innovation. Attendees also enjoyed networking opportunities, connecting with like-minded individuals passionate about fostering a future where Black creativity flourishes.
